To all of our dear friends and 507th troopers,
S/Sgt. John W. "Jack" Mangan, F company, 2nd
Battalion, 507th
Parachute Infantry Regiment, made his last combat jump at 6:10 PM,
December 22nd, 2003, finally succumbing to advanced prostate cancer one
month after the love of his life, Dorothy, passed away from Alzheimer's
Disease. True to his nature, he was always more concerned
about
others than himself, always showing his great sense of humor and
even
managing a definite grin the day before he left us. After his wife
and
daughters, the great love of his life were the troopers of the 507th
and they were always in his thoughts. Such a modest man with such a
generous heart. Without fail he gave everything to his family, his
community, and the veterans-particularly the Airborne troopers of the
507th. Because he was a supply sergeant and always looking out for
his
fellow troopers, he is undoubtedly making sure that all those 82nd
Airborne troopers that have gone before have dry socks and plenty of
chow, but the troopers of the 507th are probably getting extra socks
and extra rations! With the recent departures of Carl Letson and
Lou
Horn, quite a reunion is probably being held right now! He will be
missed more than words could ever say. To those those of you who sent
Christmas cards to him please know that he saw those cards before he
left to celebrate Christmas with his wife.
